I’ve just had the HP service man out to fix my nw9440. Over the past few weeks it has decided to start shutting down intermitently, usually at the most inappropriate moment (like when I’m winning in Counter-Strike: Source).
He ended up replacing the fan and the CPU heatsink (and associated heat plumbing). Turns out the CPU heatsink was caked in dust! After giving it a bashing for the last 30 mins or so, the CPU is sitting at about 60 degrees whereas previously it would have been up to 90 – 100 degrees, so I guess I can say it be fixed.
